EICR Guidance

Choosing an EICR provider

An EICR is not just a certificate. It is an inspection and testing process that should produce a clear, traceable record of the condition of an electrical installation.

Key guidance

This page is part of the TESC electrical safety guidance library.

What to look for

  • Clear pricing and a written scope of work.
  • A proper explanation of what areas and circuits will be inspected.
  • Professional reporting of C1, C2, C3 and FI observations.
  • A willingness to explain the next steps if the report is unsatisfactory.

Questions to ask

  • Will I receive a full EICR report?
  • How are limitations recorded?
  • Can remedial work be quoted separately?
  • Will the certificate be filed or made searchable afterwards?

Avoid choosing on price alone

  • Very cheap EICRs can encourage rushed inspection work.
  • Poor documentation can create problems for landlords, agents and future buyers.
  • The value of an EICR is in the inspection, testing and clarity of the report, not just the PDF.
